Indian Global Capability Centers (GCCs), which were formerly thought of as economical back-office units, have experienced a significant change. They are currently leading the way in AI innovation worldwide, advancing innovative solutions for a variety of sectors. India is quickly becoming a global hub for artificial intelligence, with more than 1,800 GCCs operating there and nearly two million professionals working there. What is driving this change? a potent combination of top-tier talent, deep tech cooperation, and an audacious future vision.

“Indian GCCs are now tapping into the deep pool of AI, data science and engineering talent in India to spur innovation around the world. They are taking the local tech talent and combining that with focused investments to establish next-gen AI and generative AI labs that allow for end-to-end innovation—from automation and predictive analytics to intelligent product design,” says Karthikeyan VS, Director  & Head of Asia, Expleo.

He further added “They are more frequently owning entire product development cycles and building industry-specific digital platforms. Through hybrid collaboration models and partnerships with startups and tech partners, they are hastening AI uptake and solutions delivery. The combination of available talent and high-tech forecasting and experiences will allow Indian GCCs to be intelligence hubs of enterprise-wide AI transformation, enabling smarter and faster decision-making at scale across global sectors.”

“Traditionally, Indian Global Capability Centres assumed roles as back-office operations; however, they have changed to being leaders in AI innovation with the creation of next-generation solutions like predictive systems, intelligent automation, NLP engines, and generative AI models. What differentiates them from others is the focus on an unparalleled concentration of tech talent and a robust STEM ecosystem. These GCCs are not merely executing; they are envisioning and engineering in a world of AI products.” says Ritesh Sharma, Country Head, SA Technologies.

This change is supported by recent industry insights. Nearly 90% of India’s top-performing GCC countries have already established AI Centers of Excellence, incorporating technologies like GenAI, prompt engineering, and intelligent automation into daily operations, per a BCG report. Indian GCCs are bringing about significant change in the real world and are no longer in pilot mode.

Working together is also very important. The GCCs are creating an innovative environment that is hard to duplicate elsewhere, from collaborating with IITs and Indian research labs to supporting AI startups. This collaboration is accelerating business outcomes as well as software.

“India’s GCCs are no longer just cost centres, they’re becoming global AI innovation hubs. At Vernost, we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with several GCCs to co-create AI-driven solutions that power business transformation across loyalty & customer engagement in the BFSI, aviation and retail sectors. As technology partners, we see Indian talent driving real-world impact from predictive analytics to intelligent automation.” states Pankaj Tripathi, Founder & CEO, Vernost.

International businesses are also noticing this change. Notably, decentralization and the availability of talent outside of traditional metro areas are causing smaller GCCs in Tier-2 cities to scale more quickly.

The Indian government’s emphasis on AI development, which includes funding AI Centers of Excellence and programs like the IndiaAI Mission that are establishing the framework for independent AI infrastructure and innovation governance, is picking up additional steam.

GCCs are no longer just supporting arms. The next generation of enterprise intelligence is currently being shaped by Indian GCC countries due to their increasing influence in AI and digital transformation. India is leading the AI race, not just taking part in it. The GCCs are at the center of this journey, fusing execution, cooperation, and innovation in a way that has never been seen before. India’s GCC countries are positioned to shape the future of intelligent businesses worldwide thanks to their extensive use of AI technologies and unparalleled access to highly qualified personnel.
