TimesTech: AI-driven automation is becoming an integral part of smart home ecosystems. How do you see technologies like predictive security and adaptive energy efficiency transforming everyday life in India?

Sushil: AI-driven automation is transforming everyday life in India by making smart homes safer, more efficient, and sustainable. For example, predictive security systems with AI-powered cameras can detect unauthorised activity, recognise faces and voices, and send real-time alerts, even offering remote access during a security breach. Adaptive energy systems optimise power usage by learning user habits, and automatically controlling lights, appliances, and temperature to reduce consumption. Meanwhile, virtual assistants like Alexa, Apple Siri and Google Assistant enhance convenience by understanding voice commands, playing music or movies based on user preferences, and remembering important events. These devices also collect and analyse user data to deliver personalized services. That is also one of the major reasons why new-age devices like UST projectors are being launched with increasingly advanced AI features integrated into them.

TimesTech: With your experience in both B2C and B2B smart solutions, how do consumer expectations differ from enterprise needs when it comes to adopting smart home technologies?

Sushil: The India CX Report ’25 by KPMG for Electronic Stores states that the segment is performing well in prioritising attributes such as delivery experience, product quality, trust, value for money, and service experience. In B2C, we must keep these priorities in mind and understand that customers care most about getting what they expect. They are also willing to pay more for a better experience in all areas.

In B2B, buyers compare different products belonging to the same category, including the goodwill, market demand, and credibility of different brands, as well as the distributor’s track record and, of course, profitability. If you are introducing a new product, be it for a consumer or a vendor, they would also like to have a hands-on experience. That is why we have come up with  Formovie lounges, where the quality of the products can be experienced in person.

TimesTech: How is Formovie innovating to bring more intuitive and connected smart home experiences to Indian consumers? Are there specific features or products tailored to local needs?

Sushil: As per government data, India has the largest youth population in the world, with about 65% of its people under the age of 35. So, when we are rolling out products for the home segment, the preferences of this youthful group play a key role. Their inclination towards technology plays a significant role in product buying because their opinion is considered when a traditional home plans to switch to a relatively new product like UST projectors. Formovie’s premium offerings for the Indian market include Theater, Theater Premium, C3, and Cinema Edge, while the smart laser projector range includes X5, V10, and S5. In addition to this, LCD projectors like Xming Episode One and Xming Page One are two of the most popular products in this category.

So yes, our products are specially tuned to satisfy Indian customers. They possess an impeccable short-throw distance, are equipped with inbuilt apps like Netflix and Google TV, and effectively add to the convenience of modern-day living. The built-in speakers from Bowers & Wilkins and 4K visual with Dolby Atmos ensure an unparalleled customer experience.

TimesTech: Sustainability is a major global concern. In what ways can smart home technology contribute to energy conservation and reduce carbon footprints at scale, particularly in urban India?

Sushil: Making eco-friendly choices is crucial for building a better future. That is why Formovie makes sure that sustainability is integrated into every stage of the product life cycle, from design and production to packaging and logistics. Most of its products are built using recyclable materials and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. The integration of multiple technologies and functionalities into a single unit, along with the incorporation of power-saving features, is also part of the company’s eco-friendly innovation.

Modern-day UST projectors are more energy-efficient than traditional lamp-based projectors and are free from the mercury pollution associated with older models. They consume significantly less energy per square inch of display compared to large TVs, which require more power to illuminate big LED or OLED panels. Their ultra-compact design also reduces heat emissions, and many models are built to save energy without compromising performance.

TimesTech: Government initiatives like Smart Cities and energy-efficiency mandates are gaining momentum. How do you see their role in accelerating the adoption of smart homes in the country?

Sushil: India is working hard to use energy more sustainably by improving power generation, increasing the use of renewable sources, and upgrading its infrastructure to support a greener future. We have government initiatives like the Standards and Labelling (S&L) Programme, which aims to help consumers make informed choices by highlighting the energy and cost-saving potential of labelled appliances and equipment sold in the market. As a result, modern-day consumer durables are expected to align with these government standards.
And yes, with the rural-urban divide narrowing,  the adoption of smart home equipment in India is likely to grow further. The demand for devices like UST projectors is also expected to rise, driven by the growing popularity of OTT platforms and the increasing availability of high-resolution content. Hence, in the near future, living spaces equipped with technically advanced devices will become more common in smart Indian households.

TimesTech: What future trends in digital transformation and smart living should both consumers and businesses watch out for over the next 3–5 years?

Sushil: Digital transformation has changed the very face of Indian industries. Companies are actively embracing it to deliver an exceptional digital experience and meet the ever-evolving demands of consumers. These trends and customer preferences are reshaping the way companies design their offerings. There will be increased demand for AI-powered personalisation for consumers. We now have projectors that automatically adjust based on ambient lighting, and temperature, and even tailor content according to the customer’s taste. More integrated features are expected to become standard. Another key shift is in the affordability factor. Ten years ago, a home projector system was considered a luxury—you needed a dedicated hall, controlled lighting, and other amenities. That’s no longer the case. UST projectors can now be installed in almost any available space in a household. The same goes for price. In the coming years, we’re likely to see more products in the affordable category.

We can also expect solar-powered automation, AI-driven energy optimisation, and eco-friendly home devices to dominate urban living.
