In an interview with TimesTech, Niranjan Nayak, MD of Delta Electronics India, discusses the company’s new Bengaluru headquarters and R&D facility. This strategic expansion is set to drive innovation in power electronics, EV charging, and sustainable energy solutions, aligning with Delta’s global vision for smarter, greener technologies. TimesTech: Can you elaborate on Delta Electronics’ strategic vision behind establishing the new headquarters and R&D facility in Bengaluru? How does this expansion align with your long-term goals in India?

Niranjan: Our new India HQ and R&D facility in Bengaluru are key milestones that elevate Delta’s role in India’s technological ecosystem and align with our broader goal of fostering local innovation. This expansion reflects our investment in India’s growing market while also reinforcing Delta’s global presence. The R&D center will drive advancements in power electronics, sustainability, and smart energy solutions, ensuring that we can meet both domestic and international demands. By focusing on cutting-edge technologies, this facility will be instrumental in shaping Delta’s future growth, in line with our mission of creating smarter, greener solutions.

TimesTech: How will the new R&D center in Bengaluru contribute to fostering local innovation, particularly in the areas of telecom, data centers, EV charging, and industrial automation?

Niranjan: The Bengaluru R&D center will serve as a hub for technological advancements tailored to India’s needs, with a strong focus on high-voltage power management, energy storage, and EV charging solutions. With plans to expand to 750 R&D engineers over the next three years, the center will enhance our capacity to deliver innovative solutions for telecom, data centers, and industrial automation. Leveraging India’s talent pool, the center is set to drive advancements in IoT, AI, and power electronics, creating solutions that cater to both local demands and global standards.

TimesTech: What economic benefits do you anticipate for the local community and the broader Indian economy through this new facility?

Niranjan: The new facility in Bengaluru is a key milestone in Delta’s long-term commitment to India, designed to catalyze both innovation and economic growth. By fostering advanced R&D and developing energy-saving technologies, we expect to create 3000 new jobs in the region over the next five years.  
 
Furthermore, Delta’s operations will raise demand for specialized components and services from local businesses, Supporting our agenda of “Local for Local”. This will have an impact on local supply chains, generating demand for specialized components and services from regional enterprises. Furthermore, Delta’s emphasis on sustainability and unique energy solutions will encourage local enterprises to embrace environmentally friendly practices, lowering energy costs and contributing to the country’s overall environmental goals. This strategic investment not only increases our worldwide competitiveness but also opens the door to expanded exports of high-value technology invented and produced in India, establishing the country as a global leader in green innovation. 

TimesTech: Delta Electronics is known for its commitment to sustainability. How will the new R&D center contribute to sustainable practices and innovations, both locally and globally?

Niranjan: Our new R&D center is built with sustainability at its core. Key features like the 593kW solar power system and water-saving technologies demonstrate our dedication to reducing environmental impact. The center will focus on the development of energy-efficient systems in areas like power electronics, energy storage, and EV charging, setting benchmarks for both local and global markets. By accelerating the shift toward renewable energy and smarter energy management, we are reinforcing our commitment to creating a carbon-free future, in line with Delta’s global philosophy of “Smarter. Greener. Together.

TimesTech: Can you describe the advanced facilities and capabilities of the new R&D center? How do you envision these facilities enhancing your technological development and innovation?

Niranjan: The new R&D center in Bengaluru is intended to be a hub of innovation, complete with cutting-edge facilities for high-voltage product testing, power quality checks, and a cutting-edge radio emission chamber. These new facilities will allow us to push the boundaries of power electronics by developing energy-efficient solutions for industries such as communications, EV charging, and energy storage. 
 
Our focus is on blending sustainable technology with intelligent systems such as IoT and AI to create next-generation solutions that not only suit current market demands but also predict future ones. By combining R&D innovation with a dedication to sustainability, we are laying the groundwork for energy-efficient, high-performance goods that are both environmentally friendly and technologically advanced. 

This is too generic answer. You have names of some RnD lab equipments and also talk about E mobility. This will also be Global center.

TimesTech: In what ways will the R&D facility in Bengaluru support Delta Electronics’ global technological advancements? Are there any specific projects or innovations you are particularly excited about?

Niranjan: The R&D center in Bengaluru will be critical in pushing Delta’s global technological developments, focusing on cutting-edge technologies in energy storage, EV charging, and high-voltage power management solutions. This facility is more than just a research hub; it is also a test bed for cutting-edge ideas targeted at transforming global energy landscapes. Our work on AI-integrated power solutions, which has the potential to improve efficiency in data centers and telecom infrastructure, is one of our most exciting projects. Furthermore, our achievements in sustainable energy solutions, such as smart energy management systems, will have far-reaching implications, creating new worldwide standards for green technology.

TimesTech: How does Delta Electronics see its role evolving in the Indian market with this new development? What are your plans to strengthen your presence in the Indian telecom, renewable energy, and display solutions sectors?

Niranjan: With the new headquarters and R&D facility, Delta is poised to play a key role in India’s digital transformation. In telecom, we aim to deliver energy-efficient power solutions that reduce costs and emissions. Our renewable energy focus includes expanding our energy storage and management systems to support India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions. In display solutions, we will continue to innovate by integrating sustainable, next-generation technologies. Our commitment is to provide comprehensive solutions that address India’s unique challenges, positioning us as a key enabler in the country’s tech-driven future.
