Bangalore, India – In celebration of Arduino Week, element14.com, an Avnet community, is launching “A Better World with Arduino” workshop series and accompanying project competition where community members are encouraged to create a project that makes the world a better place. At the end of the series, element14 will collect stories and project ideas from community members and publish a book to inspire the community to harness the power of creativity to make a positive impact.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the endless possibilities of what can be accomplished with Arduino with this months-long series of workshops, giveaways and altruistic design challenge,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community and Social Media for element14. “From robotics and predictive maintenance to disaster recovery and environmental monitoring, or even sustainability and upcycling, there’s no limit to what can be achieved with Arduino. We can’t wait to see what our community members come up with and are happy to offer multiple workshops to help them learn new skills and increase their abilities.”

The design challenge is open now through May 25. The most inspiring Better World project will win a Braccio Robotic Arm TinkerKit, an Arduino Edge Controller board and a $400 shopping cart. Three first-place winners will receive an Arduino Edge Controller board and a $200 shopping cart. The stories and inspiring projects shared throughout the process will be gathered into a hardcover book titled “Better World with Arduino.” Winners will be announced on June 4.

To help share insights into what Arduino boards are capable of and help inspire ideas for the design challenge, element14 is hosting a 3-part workshop series over the next several weeks. The series will be held from March – June and will feature the following insights:

  • March 26 – Better World with Arduino Workshop: Part 1: Getting Started will be hosted by community member Enrico Miglino, who will walk through his submission for the Better World design challenge. The workshop will include an introduction to the Nicla Sense ME board, including a presentation of the board, the architecture and the components, interfaces, connectivity, programming how-tos, and an overview of the AI and self-learning features. The five members of the element14 Community who ask the best questions during the workshop will each win a Nicla Sense ME Board.
  • April 23 – Better World with Arduino Workshop: Part 2: Nicla Sense ME, Real World Application In this session we will focus on a Real-World applications using the Nicla Sense ME including drafting the project, a Multisensor on a single board for Van Monitoring and alarming, the circuit, solutions adopted, a use case from an example application, and notes on integration with other boards.  The five members of the element14 Community who ask the best questions during the workshop will each win a Nano Sense 33 Board.
  • June 4 – Better World with Arduino Workshop: Part 3: Inspiring Projects The final workshop will take place at the conclusion of the Better World with Arduino and include an invite for any members who wish to showcase their project. Among the topics that will be discussed is any feedback from the challenge, a rundown of the most remarkable projects, presentations of projects from the invited guest hosts, and a live winners announcement for the challenge. This workshop will feature a live winners announcement for the Better World with Arduino design challenge. The five members of the element14 Community who ask the best questions during the workshop will each win a hardcover book featuring Better World projects.

In addition to the series of workshops, Clem Mayers from element14 Presents will be releasing “Arduino Bytes” video segments every other Tuesday from March 22 – June 6 to broaden the community’s understanding of the Arduino platform.
