element14, an Avnet Community, along with AMD recently launched Path to Programmable III; a free training program that includes an FPGA-based SoC development kit and a design/build phase where selected participants will have the opportunity to win up to $4000 in prizes.

Path III is the third session in the element14 Community’s structured FPGA-based system-on-chip (SoC) training. The first Path was held in 2018 and focused on programmable logic devices (PLDs) and featured the AVNET MiniZed development board, based on AMD’s Zynq-7000 SoC. Path II convened in 2019 and offered more advanced learning opportunities and featured the AVNET Ultra96-V2 development board, based on AMD’s Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC.

Path III will double the fun by offering structured training on both the MiniZed and Ultra96-V2 boards. Each training track will be followed by a design/build phase. To spice up the competition, element14 Community is offering up to $4000 in prizes and four different design paths.

“The Path to Programmable series offers our members a unique opportunity for professional growth, and with programmable technology driving innovation in various industries, this training will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to advance their careers,” said Dianne Kibbey, Global Head of Community and Social Media for element14. “We are excited to see what our participants will create and look forward to the continued innovation that programmable technology will bring.”

After participants complete the training modules for the MiniZed and Ultra96-V2, they will design and build a project following one of four design paths:

  • The Vision Path: Embedded/Machine Vision, Face Recognition, Accelerated AI Video, Image/Video Streaming
  • The Core Technology Path: AI/Machine Learning, Connectivity, DSP, Ethernet
  • The Market Path: Health, Home, Gaming, Industrial
  • The Environmental Path: Dirt & Plants, Streets & Highways, Pets & Critters, Water & Oceans

Applications are now open through April 30. Participants will be announced on May 3. The training begins on May 12 followed by the design/build phase beginning on July 14. Winners will be announced in August 2023.

element14 Community will award the grand prize winner an MP720025 US Digital Oscilloscope and HP OMEN 17-ck1020nr 17.3” Gaming Laptop of $1900 value. The runner-up will receive an MP720644 US CAL DU Oscilloscope of $1000 value. The third-place prize winner will receive a FLIR C3-X WIFI Thermal Imager of $600 value. The fourth-place prize winner will receive a FLUKE-175 ESFP Handheld Digital Multimeter of $400 value.
