New Delhi, India – Huawei demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by installing the most innovative Smart PV plants at its Southern Factory campus in Dongguan which also increases the use of renewable energy, continually optimizing the energy mix for its operations. On a e-tour on the sidelines of the Huawei Analyst Summit 2022, Huawei showcased its FusionSolar Smart Photovoltaic (PV) Solution demo site featuring a 17.5MW PV power generation system and a FusionSolar Smart PV Management System that creates about 17 million kWh of electricity per year, all of which used within the plant, resulting in an 8-10% renewable energy consumption.

The rooftop demo of the Huawei FusionSolar Smart PV Solution showcases the utility PV plant, in commercial, industrial and residential PV system scenarios. Displayed are Huawei’s Smart PV Controller, Smart Energy Controller, Smart Module Controller, and Smart String Energy Storage System.

When it comes to smart power consumption, Huawei solutions feature the PV, Storage & Consumption AI Synergy. Based on big data learning of weather and user electricity consumption habits, AI can accurately predict future PV power generation and household electricity consumption. Accordingly, it can optimally control the charging and discharging of energy storage under three different scenarios: sunny days, cloudy and rainy days, finally smart homes mode.

Huawei’s string inverters are subjected to a variety of stability testing, including extensive ageing and temperature-humidity variation tests. The demonstration site showcased Huawei Smart PV Controllers’ capacity to work reliably in harsh environments such as high-pressure water jets, high temperatures, and direct sunlight. The FusionSolar Smart PV Management System is demonstrated in the management center, as well as the usage of the Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis function to improve PV system O&M efficiency. This demonstration shows a distributed photovoltaic approach that optimizes the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) for a solar power plant-scale system. Huawei inverters have been placed in over 118 gigawatts around the world, with an annual failure rate of less than 0.4 percent.

Safety remains the top priority for smart PV solution in residential scenario. On the rooftop, a full series of intelligent arc protection and rapid shutdown technologies are applied to achieve zero voltage and zero arc in emergency situations. For energy storage, Huawei has added three layers of protection to achieve active safety, including AI-powered internal cell short circuit diagnosis to avoid fire hazards, cell-level temperature control to detect overheating, and optimizer-enabled 0V rapid shutdown for safer installation and maintenance.

Huawei’s smart PV systems address challenges emerging from complex roof installations, such as mazes of air conditioners, billboards, and base station antennae, which can reduce PV yield. To solve this, Huawei’s demo site features a model home roof with 24 PV panels on the East, West, North, and South sides, all of which are equipped with Huawei optimisers with potential to maximize PV modules’ energy yields (up to 30%) regardless of shading and inconsistent orientations.

Huawei Smart PV cooperates with global key partners to build innovation centers and build a prosperous industry ecosystem with manufacturers of PV modules, transformers and trackers.  The new power system which supported by renewables continues to drive global energy transformation, and the commitment to carbon neutrality accelerates extensive and profound social and economic changes for sustainable development. By leveraging its advantages in digital and power electronics technologies, Huawei Digital Power integrates cutting edge innovations such as watt, thermal, energy storage, cloud, and AI technologies, and ready to journey with customers and partners on clean power generation, energy digitalization, transportation electrification, green ICT infrastructure, and integrated smart energy to build a better and greener future.
