Oslo, Norway– Nordic Semiconductor’s ‘nRF Cloud Location Services’ has been selected as winner of the ‘IoT Technology Innovation Award’ in the 2021 6th China IoT Innovation Awards. It is the fourth year running Nordic has claimed an award in the renowned program, last year winning with its nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2/Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) System-on-Chip (SoC). The award ceremony was held alongside the 8th China IoT Conference at Crowne Plaza Nanshan, Shenzhen, China, on December 10, 2021.
Simplifying cellular IoT
“We launched nRF Cloud Location Services as a tool to simplify our customer’s cellular IoT device fleet management. The solution enables our users to choose the best location precision and battery life method. This is critical for asset-tracking devices designed to monitor status and location for months and years in the field without battery replacement,” says Bjørn Åge “Bob” Brandal, Vice President of Sales and Marketing – APAC, Nordic Semiconductor. “To see the success of this clever location services strategy recognized by end-users and the expert judging panel through this award is both humbling and gratifying.”
nRF Cloud Location Services provides Nordic customers access to a full commercial location services model once their cellular IoT products are deployed in the field. The solution initially comprises location services using single- and multi-cell location (SCELL and MCELL), and Assisted- and Predicted-GPS (A-GPS and P-GPS) for indoor and outdoor applications. Each technique offers a different trade-off between location precision and battery life. Optimized for Nordic’s technology, nRF Cloud Location Services can quickly and power-efficiently track customer smart devices accurately anywhere in the world. In addition, smart devices can use nRF Cloud Location Services data for diagnostics reporting to inform and solve operational, warranty or support problems.
Launched in 2016, the China IoT Innovation Awards, sponsored by industry magazine Elecfans, aims to discover and recognize pioneering leaders in the IoT industry whose technology has either made an outstanding contribution or far-reaching impact on the sector, or has been highly coveted by the market and individual users in the preceding 12 months.
Award winners were selected based on judging by an expert panel and online industry voting on a range of criteria including that the nominated technology or product has been used by customers on commercialized IoT-related products, has played an obvious innovative role, has improved the quality of service to users, and is clearly at the forefront of its product category. In addition, the nominated technology or product was judged on key indicators including accuracy, cost, efficiency, reliability, stability, and ease of use.
