With 2025 now underway, leading manufacturer of high performance reed relays, Pickering Electronics is reflecting on 12 months of company milestones and product innovation and looking forward to continued progress in the year ahead. Despite challenging global economic conditions in 2024, Pickering achieved stable revenue and gained test & measurement market share by investing in new products and enhanced global customer support.

Comments Keith Moore, Pickering Group CEO: “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our customers and partners – and we are excited to continue collaborating with them in 2025 as we launch new switching products and support their test and measurement needs.”

In 2025, Pickering celebrates 55 years of industry expertise, leadership and innovation in high voltage reed relay technology. Other standout milestones and highlights over the last 12 months include:

Reed relay innovations

  • Pickering unveiled an exciting enhancement to its popular Series 104, which now boasts an impressive 5kV standoff and 1.5kV switching capabilities – all packed into the same compact design.
  • The introduction of Series 144 – Pickering’s smallest miniature SIP reed relay with a power rating up to 80 Watts – combined the ability to effectively switch higher power with exceptional low-level performance.
  • Pickering has also supercharged its Series 112, 113, 116, and 122 relays, doubling their power ratings and expanding high-spec options to elevate their performance.
  • Finally, at electronica in November, the company proudly unveiled its latest development, Series 125, the smallest 2-pole reed relay in the world, delivering 20 Watts and 1 Amp switching while taking up a board area of just 5mm x 5mm.

Expanding horizons

  • Pickering unveiled a new office in Malaysia, Penang, enhancing its ability to better serve the needs of its expanding customer base in the region and fortifying its footprint across the dynamic Southeast Asia region.
  • In October, Pickering acquired Mumfords Engineering, a trusted UK partner in toolmaking and moulding, to strengthen its production capabilities further.
  • The company’s new Centre of Excellence for high voltage switching will consolidate, share and expand more than half a century of HV switching expertise across design, manufacturing and test – and put it to work for the benefit of Pickering customers.

Technical resources for customers

  • Pickering released its Semiconductor Application Guide, showcasing the advantages of using reed relays in semiconductor applications.
  • The company also launched its High Power Application Guide to help customers explore relay technology in high-power applications.
  • Pickering released its new Data Acquisition Application Guide, outlining the role of reed relays in DAQ systems and providing a roadmap to mastering switching in DAQ applications.
  • Pickering’s latest guide, the Electric Motorsport Application Guide, highlights the essential role of reed relays in electrifying performance in EV motorsport applications.

Product of the Year finalists

  • The company was thrilled to be shortlisted as a finalist at the Elektra Electronics Industry Awards in the category of Passive/Interconnection Product of the Year for its high power Series 144 relays.

Trade show success

  • Pickering travelled around the globe, showcasing its reed relays at trade shows across Japan, China, India, and Germany.
  • A standout moment was at electronica in Germany, where Pickering proudly unveiled its Series 125 High Voltage – and the company is eagerly anticipating its next adventure at productronica in November 2025!

Pickering Group

  • Pickering Group comprises Pickering Interfaces–its switching & simulation division; Pickering Electronics–its relay division; and Pickering Connect–its interconnect division.
  • Pickering Interfaces celebrated 25 years of supporting the PXI modular instrumentation standard – with most of the company’s PXI modules now offered in both PXI and PXIe formats, ensuring long-term availability and compatibility for all applications.
  • With new automation in its connection division, Pickering Connect, custom cabling and connectivity products now ship in weeks, helping ensure customers stay on track.
  • With 2025 marking the 20-year anniversary of the company’s second manufacturing facility opening in the Czech Republic, its 350 employees celebrated two decades of Pickering’s presence in Czechia with a memorable event at Třinec Town Hall.

Looking ahead…

  • Pickering is already busy developing some exciting new relays this year, continuing the focus on high voltage and high density applications.

Pickering is renowned for its leadership and innovation in reed relays, using instrumentation-grade reed switches to ensure stable, long life (up to billions of operations). Formerless coil construction and SoftCenter™ technology also help to increase reliability and robustness, while its Mu-metal magnetic screening (either external or internal) enables ultra-high PCB side-by-side packing densities with minimal magnetic interaction, saving significant cost and space. Pickering relays are also known for their reliability, due to superior manufacturing and quality control processes, with 100% testing for all operating parameters to maintain consistency.
