Rohde & Schwarz is announcing an initiative to help Formula Student teams throughout Europe develop high-performance race cars and learn from the students applications in return. A total of ten tailored test equipment packages will be provided, with five bundles using a benchtop oscilloscope and five bundles using a handheld oscilloscope, each will have a power supply and necessary equipment.

The teams from European universities must fill in a short online form by January 1, 2023 and explain why they should get to borrow the equipment and what knowledge they can share with Rohde & Schwarz when they thoroughly test their race car designs. Based on their preferred applications, student teams can opt for the Benchtop bundle with the R&S RTM3000 oscilloscope and 500 MHz bandwidth, the R&S RT-ZHD016 high voltage differential probe and the R&S NGP824 power supply, or the Handheld bundle with the R&S Scope Rider RTH1004 oscilloscope with 500 MHz bandwidth and the R&S NGM202 power supply. The bundles will be loaned until the end of 2023.

Before a race car hits the track, control and power electronics must be thoroughly tested. The R&S RTM3000 with 500 MHz bandwidth, deep memory and trigger and decode capabilities is the right tool for serial control buses such as CAN. High voltages can be tested safely when combined with the R&S RT-ZHD016 probe. The R&S Scope Rider RTH1004 handheld oscilloscope with 500 MHz bandwidth supports serial protocols and is ideal for field use with its internal battery. Isolated inputs allow secure measurements on power circuits. Both R&S NGP824 and R&S NGM202 power supplies are ideal for powering devices under test.

Andreas Grimm, Director Sales Oscilloscopes and initiator of the Formula Student initiative at Rohde & Schwarz, says: “Our company was founded over 80 years ago by Dr. Lothar Rohde and Dr. Hermann Schwarz, two university friends. The belief in the power of pioneering ideas and scientific enthusiasm in university research are deeply engrained at Rohde & Schwarz. We want to support tomorrow’s engineers in the Formula Student teams with state-of-the-art instruments and learn from their valuable insights. May the best team win!”

If more than ten Formula Student teams from Europe apply, Rohde & Schwarz will select those teams that present the best arguments for their ideas. To register a team, go to the Rohde & Schwarz Formula Student initiative website.
