As part of ICEA‘s sustained endeavours to strengthen India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, ICEA recently organised a high-level delegation visit to Uttar Pradesh for a meeting with Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary of the state.
Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, accompanied by senior government officials, such as Shri Anil Sagar, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department, UP and Shri Abhishek Prakash, CEO of Invest UP, engaged with leading electronics manufacturers operating in the state, such as Dixon, Micromax, Karbon, Amber, Zetwerk amongst others. The discussions aimed to address industry concerns and explore strategies to position Uttar Pradesh as a premier hub for electronics manufacturing.
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. In FY24, the state accounted for approximately 40-45% of India’s electronics production and ~60% of the nation’s mobile phone production by value. It also contributes ~15.3% to the country’s electronics exports and ~25% to mobile phone exports.
Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, assured timely disbursement of State incentives to the electronics industry and extended the state’s unwavering support to private entities to establish manufacturing clusters. He stated, “The government is committed to providing all possible support by implementing manufacturing conducive policies that promote investments across the electronics value chain, a greater role for women in the workforce and facilitate housing infrastructure for workers in the electronics clusters.
Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, commended the state government’s proactive approach, remarking, “The interaction was deeply encouraging, the industry is inspired by the vision and empathetic mindset of the Uttar Pradesh government towards nurturing the electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Uttar Pradesh should contribute significantly to India’s USD 500 billion electronics manufacturing goal by 2030, with a major share of the USD 200 billion. Furthermore, UP must undertake aggressive global outreach and should consider establishing international offices, which will facilitate the integration with Global Value Chains (GVCs), and draw major international brands to India. Shri Anil Sagar, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department, UP highlighted the state’s consistent engagement with industry stakeholders and urged them to utilize Uttar Pradesh’s progressive Electronics and Semiconductor Policy.
He noted, “Our policy framework is designed to support and accelerate the growth of electronics and semiconductor manufacturing in the state.”
Uttar Pradesh Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2020 extends fiscal incentives to attract investments and create a robust infrastructure to establish the state as a global hub for electronics manufacturing. These discussions highlight Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to becoming a pivotal player in India’s electronics, semiconductor and mobile manufacturing ecosystem, further solidifying its role as a leader in the sector.
