The Government of India has taken charge of bringing safety to roads by maintaining strict standards for the electric vehicle market. The government of India is planning to make mandatory standards for EV batteries, components, and their testing. The notification of the new protocol will be informed within 3 months. Making it mandatory for Vehicle manufacturers to sell Electric Vehicles with only standard compliant batteries. The government will issue these protocols for electric 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers simultaneously. It will be mandatory for manufacturers to sell EVs with batteries and components that comply with the standards.

This sharp increase in safety concerns amongst consumers follows multiple incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire this summer. The issue of electric scooters catching received wide media coverage, and also were widely discussed on social media. Questions on these incidents were also asked in the parliament last month.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) Nitin Gadkari has indicated that enterprises that fail to comply with mandated standards and regulatory requirements will face severe fines. These fines will take effect only when they have been told since they believe they should not penalize producers before notifying them of the amended requirements. In the order to maintain the standard random samples will be taken from these companies for testing to detect whether the product is up to the standard or not.

This is a huge step from the government of India to upgrade the standard of electric vehicles and to ensure safety in India. Otherwise, there will be many unsafe vehicles on the road.
