Swissbit has announced single-level cell NAND flash-based SD Cards and microSD Cards for increased reliability in industrial settings. The S-600 series, devices use a new controller, branded Hyperstone S9, specifically designed for industrial flash memory.

“When it comes to reliability, data integrity and data retention, the technology with only one stored bit per cell is still unrivalled,” according to the company. “Only single-level cell offers 100,000 program-erase cycles, making it ideal for applications that require particularly robust, durable storage solutions. This is especially true for edge IoT applications in critical industrial environments.”

“Unique firmware features guarantee an extended lifetime of safe and reliable storage of even the smallest data. First-class data preservation and data integrity is delivered in all situations: in high temperature conditions, through non-continuous writes, or sudden power failures”, claimed Swissbit. Operation is over -40 to +85°C.

The cards span 512Mbyte to 32Gbyte, and are SD 5.0 compliant and support both SPI mode and UHS-I interface mode.

Ratings are: UHS Speed Class U3 and Speed Class 10, and Video Speed Class V30 – sequential data rates are 95Mbyte/s read and 55Mbyte/s write are claimed.

The company foresees use in PLCs (programmable logic controllers), HMIs (human-machine interfaces), point-of-information terminals, point-of-sale terminals, medical equipment, energy metering and transportation.

Founded in 2001, Swissbit has offices in Switzerland, Germany, USA, Japan and Taiwan. Since 2020, most of it has been owned by investment company Ardian.
