TimesTech: Trev Mobility started with just two cars and has now grown to a fleet of 100+ EVs across Delhi NCR. What has been the biggest learning in scaling an all-electric mobility business in India?

Naveen: One of the biggest learnings has been that EV mobility is not just about replacing fuel with batteries — it requires rethinking the entire customer experience and operational ecosystem. From charging infrastructure and vehicle uptime to driver training and ride predictability, every layer needs to be designed differently.

When we started with just two cars, our focus was simply on delivering a cleaner ride experience. But as we scaled to 100+ EVs across Delhi NCR, we realised that reliability matters even more than sustainability in urban mobility. Customers appreciate the environmental impact, but what truly builds loyalty is consistency, comfort, and trust.

Another key learning has been that fleet ownership and operational control play a huge role in maintaining service quality. In premium mobility, customers don’t just book a cab — they expect a dependable experience every single time.

TimesTech: How are consumer expectations evolving in the premium urban mobility segment, particularly when it comes to comfort, sustainability, reliability, and overall ride experience?

Naveen: Urban consumers today are becoming far more experience-conscious. They are no longer evaluating mobility purely on price; they are looking at reliability, cleanliness, chauffeur behaviour, ride comfort, and overall professionalism.

We are seeing increasing demand for quieter, smoother, and more premium ride experiences, which EVs naturally enable. Sustainability is definitely becoming an important consideration, especially among corporate travellers and younger consumers, but it works best when paired with convenience and consistency.

Customers also expect transparency and predictability — whether it is on-time pickups, pre-scheduled rides, professional chauffeurs, or well-maintained vehicles. In many ways, premium mobility is evolving closer to hospitality standards than traditional ride-hailing.

TimesTech: India’s EV ecosystem is growing rapidly, but adoption in shared mobility still faces challenges. What do you think are the biggest barriers and opportunities for EV-led urban transportation today?

Naveen: The biggest barrier today is operational infrastructure. While EV adoption has accelerated, charging accessibility, charging speed, and fleet downtime management still remain major concerns for shared mobility operators.

Another challenge is perception. Many consumers still associate EVs with limited range or uncertainty, even though the technology has improved significantly over the last few years.

At the same time, the opportunity is massive. Urban transportation in India is uniquely suited for EVs because a large percentage of rides are predictable, repetitive, and within city limits. As charging networks improve and battery economics become stronger, EV-led urban mobility will become significantly more efficient and sustainable.

We also believe India is moving towards a more segmented mobility market, where customers increasingly choose services based on experience and reliability rather than just availability. This creates strong opportunities for professionally managed EV-first mobility brands.

TimesTech: Trev Mobility recently raised ₹3.65 crore through a community-backed funding round, with investments from users and customers themselves. What does this say about changing customer trust and engagement in new-age mobility brands?

Naveen: For us, this was one of the strongest validations of the brand we are building. Traditionally, customers simply consumed mobility services. But today, users want to be associated with brands they genuinely believe in and experience regularly.

The fact that customers and users themselves chose to invest in Trev reflects a deeper shift in consumer behaviour — people are increasingly backing businesses that align with their values, whether it is sustainability, better service quality, or transparency.

It also reinforces the idea that mobility is no longer a transactional category alone. If customers consistently experience reliability and professionalism, they begin to form long-term trust with the brand.

TimesTech: Having completed over 50,000 rides across airport transfers, rentals, city travel, and outstation journeys, what user behaviour trends are you noticing in urban mobility preferences across Delhi NCR?

Naveen: One clear trend is the growing preference for pre-scheduled and dependable mobility instead of purely on-demand rides. Customers, especially professionals and families, are increasingly prioritising certainty over randomness.

Airport transfers continue to be a strong category because users value punctuality and peace of mind. We are also seeing rising demand for chauffeur-driven rentals and longer-duration bookings, particularly for business meetings, family travel, and weekend intercity movement.

Another interesting shift is that consumers are becoming more quality-aware. Clean vehicles, courteous chauffeurs, and predictable experiences are now major differentiators. Users are willing to pay a premium if the service consistently delivers comfort and reliability.

TimesTech: Looking ahead, how do you see the future of chauffeur-driven EV mobility evolving in India, especially with the growing focus on sustainable transport and smart urban infrastructure?

Naveen: We believe chauffeur-driven EV mobility will become a significant part of urban transportation over the next decade. As cities become more congested and sustainability goals become stricter, consumers and businesses will increasingly prefer cleaner and professionally managed mobility solutions.

The future will likely see stronger integration between EV mobility, smart infrastructure, and digital platforms. Features like intelligent fleet management, predictive charging, connected vehicles, and seamless scheduling will become standard.

At the same time, customer expectations will continue to rise. Mobility brands that focus on experience, reliability, and operational excellence — rather than just scale — will stand out.

For Trev, the vision is to build a trusted premium EV mobility brand that combines sustainability with a consistently superior customer experience.
