TimesTech: The telecommunications landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. What opportunities do you see and VIAVI’s role? (India specific)
Monojit: India’s telecom ecosystem is advancing rapidly. With 5G and emerging 6G technologies spearheading nation’s digital transformation, India’s thriving and expanding digital economy is making significant strides. Governments strategic policies have created a collaborative platform to promote indigenous technologies and position India as a global manufacturing hub. Propelling towards self-reliance in next-generation communication technologies, the PLI/design-linked incentive schemes for telecom and networking products have resulted in strengthening local manufacturing of telecom equipment’s. Satellite communications is ushering in a new era as global and domestic players are set to begin commercial services.
India is at the forefront of 6G research & development and Bharat 6G vision plays a critical role in this mission. The pace of fiber deployment has accelerated significantly as CSPs expand their fiber networks to support 5G roll outs. Fixed wireless access (FWA), tower fiberization and broadband connectivity initiatives like BharatNet are accelerating the demand. India’s data center market is experiencing rapid growth and traditional management practices are making way for a greater reliance on AI driven automation. Open RAN is gaining momentum and the industry is incorporating NTN to augment coverage in mobile communications.
Rigorous test and validation across virtual, physical and cloud-based infrastructure help organizations manage change and speed network buildouts. Aerospace & defense, data centers, enterprises, telecommunications, semiconductor and critical infrastructure are some of the key segments driving the demand for T&M solutions.
VIAVI has been at the forefront of technological advancements in India and it is a significant moment for us to be here as we extend our capabilities to enable these networks. VIAVI plays a significant role in simplifying network deployment complexities through installation, maintenance, monitoring, optimization, and monetization.
TimesTech: What role does fiber testing play in helping customers scale and maintain performance of critical fiber infrastructure?
Monojit: Testing fiber optic networks is an essential part of fiber optic installation, as well as ongoing maintenance. Fiber testing involves a range of procedures, tools, and benchmarks employed to assess fiber optic components, links, and networks in operation. It encompasses both optical and mechanical evaluations of individual elements, as well as thorough transmission tests conducted to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of entire fiber network setups. Efficient testing processes across the network lifecycle saves time and cost in the long run, while ensuring a better quality of network and service for the end-customer.
VIAVI’s fiber testing portfolio encompasses full range of essential instruments, systems and software, required to address today’s fastest growing technologies and functional needs, providing end-to-end support for the construction, activation, monitoring and maintenance of fiber optic services. VIAVI has equipped wireline and wireless service providers, equipment manufacturers, system integrators, and contractors to meet the work-speed and test coverage requirements for telecommunication networks buildouts and maintenance.
TimesTech: Data centres are the backbone of the digital world. How are modern data centres evolving and how does VIAVI test solutions help?
Monojit: Hyperscale data centers continue to grow in size and complexity, even as 5G and the IoT drive network disaggregation and push intelligence to the edge. As data-intensive applications such as; AI/ML, high performance computing (HPC) and big data analytics enter the mainstream, the hyperscale and data center ecosystem must meet the insatiable demand for memory, bandwidth, computing power, storage and speed. Traditional networking infrastructure struggles to keep pace with the performance, speed and capacity requirements of AI/ML applications. To address this, there has been a push towards higher-speed 800G optical transceivers and the emergence of 1.6Tb/s, alongside other enabling technologies throughout the network. In addition, data center operators need to dramatically increase the amount of fiber interconnects and new multi-fiber connectivity.
VIAVI helps operators and providers to get the most from the hyperscale ecosystem and the services it carries so they can turn up infrastructure, successfully scale, and profitably innovate—today and tomorrow. With an unmatched breadth and depth of interoperable test products and expertise, VIAVI ensures levels of service and reliability that meet the high standards of hyperscale data center operators and service providers.
