Xiphera announces the launch of nQrux Root of Trust, the latest addition to its nQrux product family. Designed for ASIC and SoC implementations, the new IP provides a hardware-based foundation of trust for secure hardware systems.

The new product builds on Xiphera’s work with the European Space Agency (ESA). The Root of Trust technology has been developed as part of an ESA General Support Technology Programme (GSTP) project for quantum-resilient hardware security in demanding space applications.

“Space systems place high demands on security, reliability sometimes with missions having very long-term operation. In space systems the energy and resource-efficient implementations are appreciated. Our project with ESA has enabled development of the Root of Trust technology keeping these requirements in mind. We can now bring the same technology available to a much wider range of applications, where establishing trust directly in hardware is increasingly important,” says Petri Jehkonen, Director of Strategic Programs at Xiphera.

The launch is an important step as Xiphera continues to expand its portfolio with more comprehensive hardware security solutions.

“Root of Trust is an important addition to our portfolio. It combines our expertise in hardware-based cryptography into a solution that customers can integrate directly into their designs. This gives them a faster way to build a secure foundation for their products, while allowing their R&D teams to focus on their own product development and innovation,” says Matti Tommiska, CEO and Co-founder of Xiphera.

Security starts at the root

nQrux Root of Trust establishes device identity and protects the cryptographic keys and functions that other parts of the system rely on. Implemented entirely in pure digital logic, with no CPU or firmware, it keeps the architecture simple and the attack surface small.

The IP combines secure device identity, key management and modern cryptography, including Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). Its compact implementation reduces logic and memory requirements, resulting in a smaller silicon footprint while enabling quantum-resilient security to be built into the system from the start.

Fast track to a secure hardware foundation

nQrux Root of Trust is designed for easy integration into ASIC, SoC and FPGA architectures. Using ready-to-integrate IP reduces development effort and lead times compared with building these security functions from scratch. This allows R&D teams to focus on the features and innovation that differentiate their products.

The IP is suitable for applications across IoT and industrial automation, space and satellite systems, AI infrastructure, data centers and edge, as well as defence and mission-critical systems.
