Munich, Germany – June 7, 2019 – The city of Vinnitsa, Ukraine, CIPURSE is implementing a new, sophisticated system for automated fare collection based on open security standards. Infineon Technologies AG has been selected as the sole supplier of security chips embedded in 200,000 transport cards for city trams and buses. The cards will be released after the summer 2019.

The head of this project serves as a municipality company Vinnitsa card service. Infineon CIPURSE is providing security chips to embed in the card. Hardware devices for terminals are being sourced from the Czech Republic with Microelectronics, while the symbol transport software from Ukraine is responsible for the integration of software.

In the next step, Vinnitsa city will present a social card which combines transport ticketing with payment functionality. As part of the Ukrainian government’s roadmap for a digital economy and society, similar projects have already been implemented in Ukraine. For example, Zhitomir City’s local bank, Infineon’s CIPURSE-based security chips, is issuing multi-application cards.

Seamless and convenient solution for public transport

Population growth and continuous urbanization are reducing stress on the environment. Public transportation is one of the major liability factors in a modern, smart city, which is beyond clear bus and train options to include services like car-sharing and bike rentals. At UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Stockholm, 9-12 June 2019, Infineon will display transit ticketing solutions for seamless and convenient mobility.

CIPURSE is an internationally supported, non-proprietary security standard for Transport Ticketing and Access Solutions. The specifications are managed by OSPT Alliance. While providing guidance for multi-purpose solutions, the open standard is highly flexible, supportive cards and tickets. It is also supported in the smartphone and therefore offers a convenient alternative to the contactless ticket. In addition, CIPURSE eliminates fraudulent problems by compromising existing proprietary systems, while providing future-proof security architecture based on Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128-bit key lengths.
