India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) today extends  its heartfelt appreciation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ashwini  Vaishnaw for their visionary leadership that has culminated in the PLI 2.0 for IT Hardware. The  PLI 2.0 has garnered applications from 40 companies including global and domestic, marking a  significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global hub for IT hardware  manufacturing and exports.

This overwhelming response to the PLI 2.0 is a testament to the global industry’s confidence in  India’s manufacturing capabilities and the government’s commitment to fostering a conducive  ecosystem. The IT hardware industry is projected to reach a production value of USD 25 billion by  2026-27, with exports anticipated to be approximately USD 13 billion.

“We are humbled by the staggering response,” said Mr. Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman, ICEA, adding,  “This is not just ‘Make in India’; this is ‘Make in India for the World.’ It’s about becoming globally  competitive, especially when it comes to increasing exports.”

“The days when our nation could not convince the global industry about its competitiveness and  Ease of Doing Business (EODB) are coming to an end,” Mr. Mohindroo remarked. These comments  reflect a turning point in India’s global perception as a manufacturing destination, signalling a new  era of competitiveness and operational ease. The PLI 2.0 for IT Hardware is a testament to the  government’s commitment to fostering a conducive ecosystem for manufacturing and exports.

The PLI scheme with an outlay of about INR 22,890 crore, is expected to generate an incremental  production of INR 4,70,000 crore with incremental investment of over INR 5,000 crore. It is also  projected to create 75,000 direct jobs and over 2,00,000 indirect jobs, thereby significantly  boosting employment opportunities in the sector.

“The IT hardware vertical is the 2nd largest in electronics after smartphones, and a strong  presence in this segment is essential for India’s growth,” Mr. Mohindroo elaborated. “This will be  a double engine industry — Lead firms of Global Value Chains (GVCs) and Emerging Indian  champions will be the two engines of growth,” he emphasized. These insightful comments highlight  the dual drivers that will propel the industry forward: established global firms and rising Indian  companies. The overwhelming response to the PLI 2.0 scheme marks a new chapter in India’s IT  hardware sector, demonstrating the government’s receptiveness to industry inputs and their  determination to translate words into action.

The PLI 2.0 for IT Hardware aligns perfectly with the government’s ambitious vision of achieving  USD 300 billion worth of electronics manufacturing by 2025-26, with USD 120 billion expected to  come from exports. This initiative further underscores the government’s commitment to  transforming India into a global electronics manufacturing powerhouse.
