India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) held the launch meeting of the Indo-US Task Force for Electronics in New Delhi, a landmark initiative aimed at elevating the electronics trade between India and the United States to USD 100 billion within a decade.
The meeting was attended by Shri Amitesh Kumar Sinha along with other senior officers, officials from Department of Telecommunications (DoT), U.S. Embassy, leading and major U.S. and Indian companies, investment banking fraternity, and Washington D.C.-headquartered Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global trade association for the tech sector, representing the world’s most innovative companies.
Mr. Ram Sewak Sharma, Former TRAI Chairman and Former Secretary MeitY, and Chief Mentor of ICEA, and Chair of the Indo-US Task Force for Electronics, said, “The Indo-US Task Force for Electronics represents the fusion of two technological powerhouses. This inaugural meeting is the first step towards a promising future where both nations led by the industry collaborate to achieve mutual growth in electronics trade and innovation.”
Mr Sharma further added, ” I appreciate MeitY’s collaboration, which ensures the accelerated development of the electronics industry. The level of trust between India and the USA is truly remarkable. Having a vibrant ecosystem that is part of a global supply chain is imperative. I envision a business relationship between India and the US that is built on a foundation of trust and partnership.”
India’s electronics manufacturing industry is targeting USD 300 billion of electronics production by 2025-26.
The Task Force’s key objectives include boosting trade, fostering innovation, creating jobs, and achieving seamless integration with the global tech ecosystem. The task force aims to further the strategic partnership between India and U.S. on semiconductor advancements, advanced telecommunications, initiatives like iCET, and electronics supply chain.
