Inertial Labs, a VIAVI Company, launched the INS-NV, a programmable development platform that combines inertial navigation system (INS), attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) and an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX module.

The high-performance and modular development platform hosts demanding machine vision and navigation algorithms for advanced Alternative Position, Navigation and Timing (Alt-PNT) systems. The integration of the powerful edge AI processor accelerates development and reduces the time that has traditionally been required to integrate the INS system and software.

The INS-NV simplifies the development of real-time navigation and sensor fusion systems for maintaining operation in highly dynamic GNSS-denied and -compromised environments. It leverages the Inertial Labs aiding data ecosystem, sensor fusion filters, calibration software and state-of-the-art navigation algorithms to deliver precise time, position, velocity and attitude measurements. This includes the integration of fully calibrated tactical-grade MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes, barometric altimeter, magnetometers and full-constellation GNSS receiver (GPS, QZSS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, NavIC).

The platform is also highly expandable, enabling the additional integration of both Inertial Labs sensor modules and commercial off-the-shelf vision cameras.

“Visual navigation needs continuous information about vehicle position, orientation and time. Because these systems have traditionally lacked a high-end processor, developers have to spend considerable R&D time and budget to integrate their software with the INS, and that’s before they build a platform,” said Jamie Marraccini, Vice President, Inertial Labs Products, VIAVI. “The advanced sensor fusion addresses this challenge, enabling developers to run their own visual navigation stacks alongside our INS and AHRS technologies, and more quickly create advanced alternative navigation and PNT systems.”
