Qualcomm and Salesforce are planning to develop a new connected vehicle platform for automakers. The platform for cars with internet access would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon digital chassis and Salesforce’s cloud services. It will help automakers personalize user experiences using real-time data.

The Snapdragon digital chassis can provide assisted and autonomous driving technology, as well as in-car infotainment and cloud connectivity.

The automotive market has been a key growth area for chipmakers as demand for crucial components and connected vehicle platform is on the rise. Qualcomm has been steadily building up its automotive business in recent years.

Qualcomm unveiled a processor chip for cars called Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC. It handles both assisted driving and cockpit functions, including entertainment. “Previously those functions were handled on different chips and merging them can help bring down costs”, said Nakul Duggal, Qualcomm’s head of automotive.

“Obviously you are reducing the number of physical boxes. So it goes down to a single box. You reduce the amount of memory that you need. The extra external components that you need, those go down,” he further added.

L&T Technology is collaborating with Qualcomm to deploy end-to-end solutions for the global 5G Private Network Industry. They will utilizing their combined core expertise in the Hi-Tech & Telecommunication domain.

Qualcomm will engage Private Networks RAN Automation technology for the automation and management of small cells along with pre-integrated PN solutions. LTTS will facilitate end-to-end system integration, design, and implementation of use cases. Additionally, it will provide engineering consulting, and deployment services along with edge-to-cloud orchestration and management. Combining their diverse ecosystem strengths, both Qualcomm Technologies and LTTS are now enabling Industry 4.0 solutions for enterprises.

Japan’s Sony Group Corp also said that its newly unveiled prototype of the “Afeela” electric vehicles will use technology from Qualcomm, including its Snapdragon digital chassis.
