Munich — Rohde & Schwarz will provide Optus, one of the major network operators in Australia, with multiple backpack mounted test solutions suitable for mobile network testing. Testing measures the real user’s experience by using smartphones for handling voice, video and data to validate the network performance and coverage. To enable Optus to optimize the performance of their 5G mobile network, Rohde & Schwarz will deliver:

  • R&S Freerider 4 backpack test systems that contain up to 12 smartphones and 4 scanners, which provide simultaneous benchmarking of multiple networks.
  • QualiPoc Android, a smartphone-based network optimizer, which provides service quality tests for voice, data, video streaming and Apps such as Facebook.
  • R&S TSMA6 autonomous mobile network scanner with an integrated high-performance PC, which measures the RF network coverage.
  • Smart Analytics software, which delivers deep insights into the network performance. It uses machine-learning methodology to predict requirements for network configuration and support.

Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Australia, Gareth Evans, said: “Rohde & Schwarz is once again at the forefront of technology innovation with this Optus contract, which reflects our global RF expertise and the recognized quality of our 5G mobile network testing solutions.

5G will change the way Australians communicate. Rohde & Schwarz is ready for the next generation of mobile networks that will support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communications (mMTC) and ultra-reliable, low latency communications (URLLC).

“5G NR test and measurement challenges motivate us to provide innovative test solutions. We support the entire mobile network lifecycle for performing measurements in the lab, in production and in the field,” said Gareth.
