The Rohde & Schwarz radar test system simulates driving scenarios for testing radar-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and radar sensors used in autonomous vehicles entirely via the air interface (over-the-air). Rohde & Schwarz is now introducing new options for the R&S AREG800A Automotive Radar Echo Generator and the R&S QAT100 antenna array. The system is capable of generating extremely short distances for artificial objects, enabling realistic braking tests for autonomous vehicles with the smallest object distance among all market providers.

The Rohde & Schwarz Radar Test System (RTS) is perfect for radar object simulation – from testing individual sensors to 360° environments – and covers the frequency range from 76 GHz to 81 GHz for automotive radar sensors. Thanks to the good scalability and extensive customization options, a variety of ADAS traffic scenarios can be generated electronically for the entire test lifecycle.

The solution consists of the R&S AREG800A Automotive Radar Echo Generator as the backend and the R&S QAT100 antenna array as the frontend. It can be used in laboratory development as well as for hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle-in-the-loop testing. The solution for production consists of the R&S AREG800A Automotive Radar Echo Generator as the backend and the R&S AREG8-24/81S/D antenna as the frontend. With the new options for the R&S AREG800A, the system is now the most flexible and scalable on the market. For automotive radars, a higher instantaneous bandwidth implies better range resolution. With the R&S AREG8-81S/D millimeter wave remote front endsThe current bandwidth is expanded from 4 GHz to 5 GHz. A future-proof solution is created that makes it possible to test automotive radars with a larger bandwidth. Objects moving to the side of the vehicle can also be simulated with high precision using the R&S RTS . A new short-range feature supports minimum distances of one or more artificial objects up to the airgap value of the radar under test.

Rohde & Schwarz is introducing the new R&S QAT-B1 Enhanced Flatness option for the R&S QAT100 . The R&S QAT-B1 includes a detailed characterization of each antenna of the QAT front ends. This option improves the amplitude flatness accuracy of all antennas when used in conjunction with the R&S AREG800A .

With the R&S RTS, tests that currently require real measurement runs can be moved to the laboratory, so that errors can be identified in an early development phase and significant cost savings can be achieved.
